Get back to basics with simple hot dogs (boiled then grilled); creamy, old fashioned ice cream reminiscent of a time when Cold Stones went in a slingshot; and bicycle racks in a large front yard. Remember the years before Nintendo Wii was considered exercise; when butter, white bread, root beer floats, real white sugar and mud pies were a good healthy diet, and when generations came together for burger, fries and floats?
By converting an old car Garage at 257 Essex Street into a two-floor eatery, we finally found an appropriate way to pay homage to the late Grunnings of South Orange, Syd’s of Vauxhall and Don’s of Short Hills.
Middle School students can now walk downtown to share an after school milkshake and movie goers can cross Millburn Avenue for a late night prime angus beef burger.
The Garage is for the community and here every generation can appreciate the Garage experience- a combination of the freshest ingredients, a consistent menu and a friendly atmosphere.
